Some of you may know that The Smart Box Company team are a group of creative thinkers with over 80 years experience in the creative manufacturing industry. Not only do we spend our time building these wonderful outdoor rooms for our clients, but we work on some other fantastic projects in the background too.
As we work for many international brands on many different projects which means we use a wide range of materials daily. With sustainabilty and the importance of helping the planet in mind, we have been actively exploring ways of minimising any waste with materials once projects are complete.
Wood is one of the common materials used on client projects that we work on reguarly, so as artisan designer makers, we take the opportunity to suggest products made form their waste materials. More recently, we have manufactured a small batch of chopping boards using left overs from a job we’d complete for a global brand These pieces of wood previously would have been thrown away and disposed of as they couldn’t be used on future projects, however we thought it was a great way of repurposing the wood.
Chris Augur our founder said
“We are in a unique position being able to highlight the often expensive waste materials and suggest uniquely designed one of pieces or small batches which our clients can use to promote their environmental policies or just sell as limited editions.”
We have also worked on limited collection pieces, one interesting piece we created was a sofa we upholstered using old vintage Levi jeans. Not only are we helping with recycling the jeans, it’s also allowed us to create a unqiue and one of a kind artisan designed piece.
We apply the same process into our builds here at The Smart Box Company minimsing our waste.
